Objective

Conduct interviews with 5 potential customers from your target audience to refine your understanding of their behaviors, needs, and decision-making processes. Use this information to adjust your persona, CJM, and product strategy.

Steps to Complete the Task


1. Prepare for the Interviews

  1. Use the Provided Script Template:

  2. Focus Areas:

    • How they currently solve their problem.
    • What influences their purchasing decisions.
    • Key pain points and unmet needs.
  3. Schedule Interviews:

    • Reach out via social media, LinkedIn, or communities where your audience is active.
    • Aim for diverse participants within your target demographic.

2. Conduct the Interviews

  1. Ask Open-Ended Questions:

    • Encourage detailed responses by focusing on their actual experiences and behaviors.
  2. Key Questions to Include:

    • How do you currently address [specific need]?
    • What factors matter most when choosing a solution?
    • What frustrates you about existing options?
    • Where do you typically look for information or recommendations?
  3. Take Notes:

    • Record key insights and patterns during the conversations.

3. Summarize Insights

Answer the following questions based on the interviews:

  1. Spending on the Identified Need:

    • How much money and time have they spent this year addressing the main need?
  2. Current Solution (Main Competitor):

    • What is their primary way of solving the problem today?
  3. Decision-Making Process:

    • What steps do they take from awareness to purchase?
    • What influences their decisions the most?
  4. Comparison Parameters:

    • What criteria do they use to compare alternatives?
      • (e.g., price, quality, speed, features, brand reputation).
  5. Communities and Influencers:

    • Where are they already gathered online?
    • What groups, forums, or influencers do they follow?
  6. Future Interview Opportunities:

    • Where can you find at least 100 similar people for future interviews?
  7. Profiles of Participants:

    • Share links to the social media profiles of the 5 interviewees.

Documentation Format

  1. Results Summary:

    • Provide concise answers to the 7 questions above in a Google Doc or spreadsheet.
  2. Link to Interview Notes:

    • Share the document with detailed responses from the interviews.

Tips for Success

  1. Be Approachable:

    • Frame your outreach as a friendly conversation rather than a formal interview.
  2. Ask Follow-Up Questions:

    • Dive deeper into their responses to uncover specific pain points and needs.
  3. Record Conversations (if allowed):

    • Use tools like Otter.ai to capture details accurately.
